At DogSafeBites, our goal is simple: give dog owners accurate, easy-to-understand answers about which foods are safe for their dogs. This page explains how we research, write, check and update every article.
Who writes our content
Our articles are written by Muhammad , the founder of DogSafeBites, who researches and writes about dog food safety. You can learn more on our About Us page.
How we research
We base our articles on trusted veterinary and animal health sources, including:
- ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center
- Merck Veterinary Manual
- American Kennel Club (AKC)
- U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Veterinary Medicine
- Peer-reviewed veterinary research and veterinary school resources
We don’t use forums, personal stories or websites that sell pet products as sources for health or safety claims.
How we write
Every article starts with a clear, direct answer, so you can get what you need in a few seconds. After that, we explain the reasons behind the answer: what in the food can help or harm a dog, how much is too much, how to serve it safely and which warning signs mean you should call your vet. We write in plain language and explain any medical terms we use.
How we check facts
Before an article is published, we check every health and safety claim against trusted sources. This includes toxic ingredients, safe amounts and symptoms of poisoning. We link to our main sources inside the article, so you can read them yourself. When sources disagree, we take the more cautious position to keep your dog safe.
Keeping content up to date
Veterinary knowledge changes over time. We review our articles regularly, and when new research or guidance comes out, we update the article and its date.
Corrections
If you find an error in any of our articles, please tell us through our Contact Us page. We review every report and correct confirmed mistakes as quickly as possible.
Independence and advertising
Our safety answers are never influenced by advertisers or affiliate partners. We don’t accept payment to call a food safe or to recommend a product. Most of our content is purely informational, and when we do mention a product, it’s because we think it’s useful for our readers. Read our Affiliate Disclosure for more details.
Use of AI tools
We may use AI tools to help with research and drafting. Every article is reviewed, fact-checked and edited by a human against trusted veterinary sources before it is published.
